Maes Y Mel

Meidrim

Maes-y-Mêl, which translates to ‘The Honey Field’, is a fantastic couples retreat in a rural location close to all that Carmarthenshire has to offer with its countryside walks from the door.

Property Highlights

  • Beautiful rural setting convenient to explore Carmarthenshire
  • Gift of local honey produced on-site
  • Accepts one or two small well behaved dogs - charges apply
  • On-site parking for one vehicle
  • Patio and shared gardens with far reaching rural views

This modern semi-detached conversion, has been lovingly renovated for couples to enjoy a relaxing holiday, just a short drive from the Carmarthenshire coast. It has plenty of space, with a lovely calming ambience.

Enter into the hallway, with the modern open plan kitchen to your left, which has ample amenities for your stay, including a full-size fridge freezer, an oven and 4 ring electric hob, dishwasher, microwave oven and washing machine. The dining area has beautiful garden views where you can look out to the fields beyond. Sit back and relax on the comfortable sofa watching a film in the evening on the Smart TV with the built-in gas fire roaring.

The modern downstairs bathroom has a shower and WC. There is a spacious double bedroom upstairs with freshly laundered bedding. Enjoy listening to music on the record player, while enjoying your morning coffee. The bedroom has some limited headroom in some areas. There is a single foam sofa-bed available upon request.

St Clears is the nearest town, with a good choice of coffee shops, a handful of pubs and restaurants. It is perfectly located to explore Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

Laugharne is a 5 minute drive, and is perhaps best known for its associations with Wales' most famous poet, Dylan Thomas. Laugharne is a small town sitting on the estuary of the Taf River and offers stunning estuary walks, including the infamous Dylan Thomas Birthday Walk. The Boathouse, where Dylan and Caitlin lived with their children, is now a heritage centre. Overlooking the estuary are the dramatic ruins of a Norman Castle, a popular visitor attraction. Laugharne has a good choice of cafes and restaurants. There are also plenty of woodland walks and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path starts nearby.

There are also a good choice of outdoor activities available in the area, ranging from horse riding, coasteering, to a variety of water sports, abseiling, orienteering, caving and gorge walking.

There are many beautiful rugged beaches in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, along with the more popular coastal resorts of Pendine, Saundersfoot and Tenby.

There is an abundance of interesting attractions locally, including Castles, historic houses and National Botanical Gardens to name a few.

If you are a "foodie" then there is a fantastic choice of restaurants within a 20 - 30 minute's drive ranging from Coast in Coppet Hall to Y Polyn, just 5 minutes from Carmarthen.

Our hosts Buddig and Lloyd were welcoming, friendly, offering the very best of Welsh rural hospitality. Diolch yn fawr! A generous welcome pack with home made barabrith and their own honey, milk, tea, coffee etc was really appreciated. The location is quiet and beautiful with stunning views. The accommodation is comfortable, spacious and decorated in a 60s/70s theme. We loved the record player!

We had such a fantastic stay with Buddug and Lloyd, the house was perfect for our weekend trip away with pup. Everything was as described, we had everything we could have possibly needed or wanted. Such a calm and peaceful area to stay, with lots of close destinations to visit by car. We would recommend going to Tresaith Beach, which is about a 50 minute drive from the house. There is a lovely little beachfront eatery called The Ship Inn, when you can sit on the terrace overlooking the sea view with some yummy food and a drink. We also tried a restaurant in Camarthen, just a 20 minute drive from the house, called Florentino’s, it was delicious - would highly recommend!
The house was immaculate, and we were given some complimentary eggs from the chickens in the garden, homemade cake and a jar of honey from Lloyds bees. It was really special. Thanks so much for having us, we would love to come back!

This was a beautiful home provided by lovely owners. It was clean, bright and there were delightful personal touches like wee chocolates for the kids, fresh eggs and honey plus a high hair and beds for the wee ones, complete with cuddly toys (which wasn’t expected!) I’d definitely stay there again. The owners had a cute doggie that was pals with our dog too. We were all sad to leave. Highly recommend the peaceful country stay.

Maes Y Mêl was absolutely beautiful - the property was spotless, it was a very cosy feel and the decor was amazing! I stayed for 8 days and did not want to leave as it was so homely inside! The views from around the property are breath taking! Both hosts living next to the property were lovely and very accommodating! I was left with some homemade honey from on the farm and some eggs from the chickens! Both delicious 10/10 all round!

Very nice and remote house in Carmarthenshire.

Location allows trips to Pembrokshire / Brecon Beacons / Gower in around ~1h one-way - we found it very convenient.
Interior is to very high standard, farm environment is marvellous. The place is great value for money indeed!
Support team of Great Welsh Escapes is lovely, they ensured we've found ourselves everything that we needed & communicated timely.

Would love to come back again one day!

My Wife and I feel really relaxed after a wonderful stay at this fantastic rural location. We ate dinner outside every night watching the sun go down. The chickens certainly kept us entertained too! You will not be disappointed booking to stay here.

We really enjoyed our stay here - it was exactly as we wanted - a home away from home to relax in the rolling hills of Wales. The house had everything we needed and the hosts even provided welch cakes they made, a jar of their own honey and eggs from the chicken on the farm. The view was stunning from the house and we can see the ocean from our windows. Furniture and space was well kept. The house is connected to the owners house by the wall but had completely separate entrance and the owners gave us plenty of privacy throughout our stay.
Shops are 10min drive away and it's within 30min driving distance to Llansteffan castle. Great location for those with a car and want some peace and quiet in the country side.
Room was very warm, furniture was great, the room was decorated with practical touches so really enjoyed that! The bedroom is upstairs away from the bathroom so it is a trip downstairs if you need it in the evenings but not too difficult and well lit. Thanks for a fab stay!
