Great House (Ty Mawr) is a beautifully restored Georgian town house with outdoor heated swimming pool (from May to end of Sept) set on the main street in Laugharne, the magical village made famous by Dylan Thomas, and more recently the BBC DRAMA "Keeping Faith". This very special and unique property is Grade 2 Listed, and it retains many historical architectural features with it's grand decor, extensive wood panelling, high ceilings embellished with decorative plasterwork and large sash windows.

As soon as you enter the back electric gate opening to the drive and garden you wont fail to be impressed. Next to the drive which accommodates 3 cars, lies the large lawn area with flagstone steps leading to a pool deck and terrace with a day bed and loungers alongside the outdoor heated pool. (available May to September. Can be extended by a few weeks upon request). Beyond the pool enter the old ruin to the main back door and further flagstone steps up to an upper dining terrace with large table and chairs and a BBQ, perfect for al fresco dining on a Summers evening. The garden is fully secure and very private surrounded by beautiful magnolia trees.

The impressive hallway with its fine dog leg staircase will take you back in time to the grandeur of a bygone era yet modern conveniences add to your comfort. Off the bedroom area is a bathroom with standalone bath to the centre of the room and enclosed WC. Please note:This floor is semi open plan with no full height walls apart from WC

This property is very unique and is a rare find, with its beautiful location, all local amenities on your doorstep, and a lovely choice of restaurants, and beautiful coastal walks along the estuary.

Laugharne is perhaps best known for its associations with Wales' most famous poet, Dylan Thomas, however, there is much more to Laugharne than just Dylan Thomas.

Laugharne is a small town sitting on the estuary of the Taf River and offers stunning estuary walks, including the famous Dylan Thomas Birthday Walk. There are also plenty of woodland walks and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path starts nearby.

It is an ancient town steeped in history, and a popular tourist destination with many great attractions in the area. With its easy accessibility to the M4, and prime location, also makes it a great base to visit Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

The Boathouse, where Dylan and Caitlin lived with their children, is now a heritage centre. Overlooking the estuary are the dramatic ruins of a Norman Castle, a popular visitor attraction. Laugharne has a good choice of cafes and restaurants.

There are also a good choice of outdoor activities available in the area, ranging from horse riding, coasteering, to a variety of water sports, abseiling, orienteering, caving and gorge walking.

There are many beautiful rugged beaches in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, along with the more popular coastal resorts of Pendine, Saundersfoot and Tenby.

There is an abundance of interesting attractions locally, including Castles, historic houses and National Botanical Gardens to name a few.

For the younger generation we are a short drive away from the likes of Folly Farm, Oakwood, Manor House Wildlife Park, Heatherton World of Activities and Dinosaur Park to name a few.

If you are a "foodie" then there is a fantastic choice of restaurants within a 20 - 30 minute's drive ranging from Coast in Coppet Hall to Y Polyn, just 5 minutes from Carmarthen.

Beautiful traditional Georgian house in all her finery. We loved our stay even though it was just the two of us! Kitchen was really well equipped and Log burner was perfect for afternoon tea and relaxing

An amazing place for our family stay. The kids wanted a pool, and I was relieved that it was warm enough (I’ve stayed at places with pools that are too cold to actually swim in before). The bedrooms and bathrooms are all fabulous and a little bit bonkers. (I’m glad we didn’t take my elderly mother in the end though, as there are uneven floors and staircases without handrails.) The neighbours were really friendly, the village has everything you need and the beaches in the area are sublime.

We had a great stay at the house which has real character, would recommend the house and the village, lots of great social areas and the rooms were all fabulous with comfy beds. Lots of thought has gone into the decoration and the bits around the house and pictures etc. We had a fabulous week (6 adults, 3 early teens). Great that we could take the dogs and there was a gate to keep them in there allowed area.

Lovely great big house filled with great stuff, something interesting in every corner!
Ideally located for walking the coast path, visiting the many beaches or nipping down to walk by the estuary with the dogs.
The Village is good too with many pubs and restaurants and useful store.
We really enjoyed the pool and deck and the sunny terrace.
The dining room is very special.
Perfect house for a family holiday.

A beautiful house In a lovely quiet village. We always go away for a summer family week with our grown up kids and their partners and this house was big enough for them to all have their space and a kitchen and outdoor space for us to come together for big family meals .we had poor weather and there upstairs starting area was good for film night The enclosed garden was good for our two dogs.
Helpful staff
Michelle was very quick to respond to our requests so thank you.

We had such an amazing stay. The house is even better in real life and the kitchen is set up so well that cooking is a real pleasure. Any glitches were sorted immediately and everyone we met in Laugherne was so friendly (especially in Poon’s) - it was great being able to walk to get food/coffee etc. The pool was a perfect temperature and when the sun was out it felt like we were in Italy. Comfortable beds, incredible bathrooms and a cosy snug for when it rained. Perfect.

The property exceeded our expectations in size and quality of furnishings. Everything you need for a home away from home. Slight mustiness on some furniture probably because they allow dogs. Small lawned area at the back of the property, plenty of parking for 3 cars, beautiful walks direct from door.

A wonderful, grand, lovely home. Sprawling yet cozy with wonderful details, creaking, undulating amazing wood floors, big window, period furniture…on and on. Really a treat. The pool is a nice option which we enjoyed often as we visited during quite a warm time. Enjoyed nightly dinners on the lovely top terrace. Property is exactly as it is described on the site.

Just an astonishing house, I think the most beautiful place I've ever stayed - the photos, beautiful as they are, don't quite do it justice. The restoration work on this old Georgian house has to be seen to be believed. Our teenagers loved the pool, the outside area and barbecue are wonderful, the bedrooms are breathtaking and very comfortable. Laugharne is wonderful and very friendly, and there are beautiful walks on your doorstep. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Beautiful historic house in a peaceful location with amenities in easy reach. The swimming pool is small but great for cooling off and the evening sun on the terrace made it feel quite Mediterranean. Huge rooms and lots of space, we hardly used a couple of the rooms at all. The top floor is great for kids or a family with children as it’s quite open plan. Would highly recommend it for a large family group.

The house was great - so beautiful - the different spaces suited the needs of three generations and 7 people, with lots of places to hang out in. Everywhere was very spacious and cosy, with lots of interesting art work on the walls. We felt some of the furniture was looking a bit tired and could do with a bit of an overhaul.
It was a great location, with lots of interesting walks on the door step and a beach with cafes a 10 minute drive away. We had a fantastic meal at Dexters at Browns, moments from the house and there were enough shops in the town to pick up a few bits and peaces.

What an amazing house - huge, comfortable and well-equipped. The swimming pool was an extra bonus. A really special place in a fantastic location. We enjoyed our stay very much.

It is on quite a busy road and the bedrooms at the front do get traffic noise so take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. In the loft, the chairs are quite old and rickety and the water was not connected to the tap in the kitchen. But these were minor irritations in an otherwise wonderful stay.

Michelle could not have been more helpful or welcoming. When there was a power cut one morning and we could not prepare breakfast she organised for us all to have breakfast from a local cafe. There were lovely welsh treats for us when we arrived so we had local goodies on hand. Thanks very much to Michelle for all her hospitality.

This place is a must in the AirBnB portfolio. Nestled in the wonderful area of Pembroke it is easy to see how Dylan Thomas found inspiration for his work. The house was immaculate and appointed in a style thoroughly in keeping with its period character. Lovely thick walls and wide entrance ways with staircases befitting a country mansion. Lovely open plan kitchen with a ‘snug’ next to a family dining area with comfortable chairs where one can snooze or watch a movie after a long walk along the estuary. The next three floors each in themselves offered a voyage of discovery with high vaulted ceilings and en-suites sizeable enough to host dinner parties. Roll top baths and period decor and walls adorned with artwork and photographs make this a place where one can immerse themselves and while away the hours in splendour. The first floor has a formal dining room and two drawing rooms, well stocked libraries to suit all tastes. Bedrooms are spacious and the most comfortable beds. The top floor is a loft conversion with a billiard table and a self contained kitchen.

All in all this is a gem of a find and we were well looked after by our host. It was an absolute pleasure to stay here and we will return - no question.

Highly recommended.
